Tippmann Pistol
On Friday we learned that Tippmann will be launching a Tippmann Pistol model. Here is the release quote.
"In addition to the new Straightline Barrel launched yesterday, Tippmann is also announcing at D-Day the launch of a new Pistol to the paintball industry. Because our dealers and core players have been asking for a premium pistol, we feel the opportunity exists for Tippmann to launch a better pistol, using brand new technology that will quickly make it the most sought after pistol on the market. Unfortunately at this time we cannot elaborate much beyond the fact that it will be .68 caliber, lightweight, compact, modifiable and have the Tippmann reliability our customers have come to expect.
At D-Day we will also be giving players an opportunity to sign up for a Sneak Peek email but of course as a Tippmann Dealer you will automatically be updated on a regular basis during the summer months. Although this pistol will not be available until the fall, we are launching at D-Day because we feel we are far enough along with this new technology and that the timing is right to announce an exciting new product to our core group of scenario players.
Tippmann is extremely excited with the initial response of our new products launched this year. The new U.S Army Alpha Black, the updated 98 Custom Platinum Series have surpassed our initial expectations by providing exceptional value to your customers and we feel our entry into this new category will further fuel the growth of paintball with the avid player."
We will keep you updated on this announcement. Do you feel Tippmann will get it right the first time and be able to compete with Tiberius Arms Pistol? (shown below)

i hate pistols i doubt that it will be better if at all than most it holds like 8 rounds and your little bitty coz cartridge holds like 10 shots i'd much rather throw my co2 ank at my oppenant than use a pistol in short range (lol)
if tippmann is doing it then it should be good the first time i have an x7 it was great out of the box so the pistol should be just as good
I guess the only problem with pistols though is that they have a significantly shorter range than the typical semi-auto markers. I think it's nice to have a pistol for another paintball gun for the looks, but for quality, it's probably more worth it to have a pod filled with 10 balls and get 10 quality shots than to have an additional gun being a pistol and get 10 short range shots.
What is the effective range for paintball pistols? I would think that some are looking for speed when using a pistol?
Ok I'll clear up some stuff here as there seem to be some big pistol doubters.
Pistols don't have much less range than a full size marker, it's only 10-20 feet less, second they will be competing with actual pistols, the Overlord RX, ACP, Zues etc, Tiberius is still not near the best selling or most used pistol.
Pistols are meant to have only a few shots and be compact, putting a CO2 tank like Bisquick said, would be retarded, most pistols make 22+ shots on a CO2 anyways, they are light compact you can maneuver cover better, and I've seen guys and girls slaughter entire squads just using a pistol because they are SO much faster and agile, and they learn to play smart, not dumping.
All i know is if you try to run up on me with a pistol its game over for you. No way ill let you take me out with 1 of those. For me it be just fun to shoot off in the back yard. Plus i try to keep the weight down when i play, already have a ton of paint hanging off me so no need for it. Tippman does make quality markers so this 1 is probably legit.
Valaska, thanks for your post. Good information and point of view.

Some of you guys should learn some things about paintball before posting.
For one, a paintball pistol shoots every bit as far as any other marker. 300fps is 300fps period. Second of all, I can guaranty you that no matter what you have, someone out there can and will take you out with a single shot, whether it be with a pump or a pistol.
Not one gets away with this not happening sooner or later. Either your a lier, or you havent played enough to make a comment like that.
Effectiveness depends on the player, and their abilities and nothing more.
And as for the tippmann pistol, it should certainly be able to compete with the T8 if their statement about their unseen technology is fact. Its bound to have to be good if they plan to take on a smaller market as there is for pistols, with tiberius being king of the hill.
i have a decked out tippmann a-5 and the special edition tiberius8. pistols aren't the most effective in paintball but they're a lot of fun. there a lot harder to get kills with because you can't dump a hundred balls on someone in a few seconds like my a5. im looking forward to this new tippmann pistol so i can use both pistols at once!
The people that will get use out of this pistol (or any other pistol) are the people that rely on skill, not ammo. If you need to "dump a hundred balls on someone in a few seconds", you are nothing more than a newb with an overly tricked out a5. Not to do any horn tooting but I run a flatlined 98c with a stock and I use a 25rd feed tube and I carry a bandalere with 10rd tubes and my game play is way more effective than the type most of you go by. I would love to (and will next season) carry pistol for certain scenario play and sticky situations.
